Vista  has another menu feature which is hidden and becomes enabled only when you right click something holding shift key. 

 

This allows you quickly add a file to quick launch or pin it to start menu. Moreover if you want the just the file location of the document just use copy as path. However this does not work with folders, just works on files excep copy as path option.
